Most of the sites we build are small- or medium-sized. While we do build sites including Flash elements, we do not build sites composed primarily of Flash animation. We can also use custom HTML, Javascript, PHP, video, audio and other Web 2.0 technologies to enhance your site.

Our E-commerce technology is targeted to retailers who don't require frequent changes to their online catalog. If your catalog is likely to require frequent updates (daily or weekly) we may not be equipped to help you.

We are not a full service video/audio production company, but we do offer an array of basic video/audio services. If you need to include video or audio files in your website, we should be able to help you.

We can convert client-provided video files into a variety of formats including Quicktime, Flash, AVI and Windows Media. We can do basic editing of video files including titles and transitions. We provide basic editing for client-provided audio files and can convert most files into mp3 format for integration into your web site.

Video/audio work will be billed in real time at the current hourly rate (see fees page).

We are not a direct seller of web hosting services. Clients will need to contract with a web hosting provider and provide appropriate access information to mrwdesign.

We can help you set up and configure the account and work with your hosting provider to resolve technical issues.

We recommend Hostmonster.com as a hosting provider with low fees and excellent customer service.

In order to have a website, you must have a "domain name" such as mrwdesign.net, apple.com, nasa.gov, etc.

The first step in registering a name for your site is finding out if it is available. If it isn't, you will have to come up with alternative names until you find one that is available.

When registering a domain name the name becomes the property of the person or business listed as the registrant. We recommend that clients register their domain name personally or under their business name, rather than having mrwdesign do it for them. This way, the name belongs to you, not to us.

Registration fees vary, but are usually no more than $20 per domain, per year. You can register a name for as little as one year or for multiple years (depending on the registration service).

In order to help your site show up prominently in search engine results you will need help with Search Engine Optimization (SEO). SEO includes researching possible keywords and phrases, entering relevant keywords and phrases as "metadata" into the code of your website pages, and uploading the optimized page(s) to your web server.

In addition, when your site is complete, we can generate "index" files for submission to Google and Yahoo. Indexing helps ensure that these search engines pick up your pages properly and can help improve your ranking.

If your site is likely to require frequent changes, it is possible to include special code in specific pages that will allow you to make changes yourself using a Content Management System (CMS).

We use CushyCMS which allows you to make changes to text and images in specific portions of your page(s), but protects key features such as navigation and the overall design of the site. Currently, CushyCMS accounts are free.

CushyCMS requires no special software, just a web browser and Internet access.

If you would like to incorporate a CMS into your site, please let us know so that we can include the required code as we build your site.

Assistance with setting up a CushyCMS account and extra time inserting CMS code will be billed in real time at the current hourly rate (see fees page).

If you need a site with password-protected access, it is possible that we can help you with this.

Some hosting providers have built-in support for password protection which makes it relatively easy to set up.
